Re-enacting
About us We are a group of fellow enthusiasts from as far South as Huntingdon to as far North as Edinburgh. Some of our members have been with us since the regiments formation in 1976, while others have moved to different roles within the society, such as Pyrotechnics, Signals and various Staff positions. The regiment is one of the founder regiments of the American Civil War Society Ltd. here in the UK. In this role we take a very active part in all the society’s re-enactments, as part of the 3rd Company. What is re-enacting? In short, re-enacting is portraying historical roles in as accurate and informative way possible. What is the main society called?
The American Civil War Society Ltd. is a historical society portraying the American Civil War 1861 - 1865. What roles can you portray? Roles vary from solders to civilians, for both men and women. This will require a little research on your part. Where will I sleep? The society is split into two camps. The authentic camp, where you will sleep under canvas. The family camp where you sleep in modern tents or caravans. What is the soldiers uniform like? A brief description of what you will need can be found by clicking here.
What will it cost? There is an annual membership subscription paid to the American Civil War Society Ltd. Full details can be found on the membership application form, click here. You will need Adobe Acrobat to read this form. There is also a small fee for each event, while this fee varies from event to event, it is no more than £10. Do I need a licence to be a soldier? To handle or fire a musket you will need a shotgun licence and a black powder licence. For details please enquire at your local police station. I’m interested what next? Come along to an event and talk to the members. This is a great hobby and you have to experience it to appreciate it.
